Two meetings of the Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC) will convene in San Luis Obispo on Wednesday, August 5. The NRC is seeking public input on the license renewal of the Diablo Canyon Nuclear Power Plant. Mother’s For Peace is looking for supporters to join them in taking a stand against a 20-year license renewal for the site. MFP reports that in the past public NRC meetings have been dominated by PG&E employees, causing an imbalance in community representation. The public is invited to voice their concerns about Diablo Canyon Nuclear Power Plant. The meetings will take place from 1:30—4:30 p.m. and 7:00—10:00 p.m. at the Courtyard by Marriott, 1605 Calle Joaquin Road in San Luis Obispo.
How you can help:
- Read Myths of the Nuclear Industry, a document provided by Mothers for Peace which counters the “facts” presented by PG&E.
- Attend one or both of the August 5th meetings wearing a blue shirt or a Mothers for Peace T-shirt.
- Be prepared to stand for a moment when a MFP representative asks for those in the room who consider Diablo and its radioactive wastes dangerous to identify themselves.
- If possible, prepare to speak on your opposition to the license renewal when comments are opened to the public
