It’s always our good fortune to have the final month of the year begin with the Sun already in the cheerful, enthusiastic, forward looking Fire sign Sagittarius. This year we happen to also have Saturn in the sign of the Archer, tending to add a touch of caution and realism to the expansive and optimistic nature of Sag. In addition, both the challenging and uplifting qualities of Neptune and Pisces that were discussed in last months Forecast still strongly affect our lives at this time, especially as Chiron, the Wounded Healer in Pisces, just changed direction at November’s end as had Neptune earlier. With Saturn affecting Neptune at this time, it would be easy to feel somewhat discouraged, likely just as much if not more so by events in the world as our own life circumstances. Yet cultivating Neptune/Pisces qualities of creativity and imagination, kindness and empathy, deeply caring about others, and wishing to do good in the world, could be important in your life at this time of the year as well.
Also occurring as the month progresses is the passage of sociable, affectionate, partnership oriented Venus and Juno, the asteroid that influences relationships and marriage, into the deeply feeling, passionate, Water sign Scorpio on the 4th and 10th. While we could certainly highlight the less admirable traits of the sign of the Scorpion, considering the tenor of the times, it’s just as likely that qualities of commitment, intimacy, deeply appreciating the loved ones in your life, could be part of the sharing, the giving and receiving, that is so much a part of the holiday season.
Mercury’s entrance into the serious, responsible Earth sign Capricorn on the 10th indicates that our thinking, and at times our communication with others, could just as much be focused on work, obligations, and the task at hand. See this as a nice balance to the Sagittarian tendency to exaggerate and overdo things.
The New Moon on the 11th is influenced by the planets Mars, Jupiter and Uranus. In many ways a sense of personal freedom, being open to new possibilities, and expanding one’s horizons, could become part of our approach to life as we anticipate the New Year ahead. The influence of Jupiter and Chiron together indicates that being of service to others could be part of what uplifts your spirits as well. The very flowing interaction between Venus and Neptune encourages ideals of love and compassion, as well as possibly the desire to use the personal touch to create the gifts we give to others instead of shopping in stores or on line.
What is problematic at this time is the very tense interaction between Mars, Uranus and Pluto. While this combination is just as likely reflecting an intensification of conflict, or some sudden unexpected event, on the world stage, in our own personal behavior, we should, first and foremost, slow down!! Rushing around, getting frustrated, and loosing your temper, often happens during the holiday season. Focusing on Sagittarius themes of optimism, being open minded and encouraging of others, should be the gear to shift into when out and about.
The Winter Solstice chart on the 21st features the grounded, practical element of Earth. Of course the Sun is now in responsible, organized Capricorn, as are Mercury and Pluto. The Moon is in Taurus, a sign that makes material security a priority, and Jupiter is in the detailed, service oriented sign Virgo. These are all qualities we can use to our advantage in the three months ahead. In addition, Venus also interacts with the Moon, Mercury, and Jupiter, encouraging a thoughtful, helpful and positive attitude toward family and work.
Finally, the Full Moon on Christmas Day features some of the same encouraging planetary influences as in the Winter Solstice chart. Yet with the Moon now in the sensitive, emotional, family oriented Water sign Cancer, the focus could just as much be on nurturing and being protective of those closest to us. With both luminaries being enhanced by the rays of Neptune, the more uplifting qualities of Neptune and Pisces described earlier could help set the tone as we approach years end, positively affecting what we would wish for and aspire to in 2016.
May gratitude and hopefulness encourage ideals of peace and joy for this Holiday season.
