In these times of challenge and unpredictability, it’s nice to know the days and weeks ahead will be longer and warmer, and the natural world will be bursting with an abundance of color and beauty. These constant reminders that we have much to be grateful for will need to be emphasized in the months ahead.
In some ways, this is the beginning of the New Year. With the sign of Aries initiating springtime, this is the opportunity to be more alive, take the initiative, begin new projects, and embrace life with as much enthusiasm as possible. And while Mars, the ruler of assertive Aries, is the God of War, he is also the protector – the warrior energy we rely upon to defend the tribe in times of danger. In the chart of the Spring Equinox, we find Mars in the Earth sign Taurus, which relates to land, material security, and what we value. And while this topic is not the most visible and important of the planetary happenings in the Equinox Chart (EC), protecting and defending Mother Earth from material greed and destruction is still a place we can focus the Martian energy at this time. We can also patiently plan for the yearly celebration of Earth Day.
What really stands out in the EC is the heavy, responsible, and often limiting nature of Saturn upon both Luminaries: the Sun (the leader, head of state) and the Moon (the public, the collective mood of the people). In fact, the Solar and Lunar energies are in a tense conflict. The areas of conflict in the EC chart indicate that tension between who is in charge and the response of the populace will become more apparent as spring moves forward. It’s as if there’s a crisis of consciousness across the land. With the Moon and Saturn joined together in the sign of Sagittarius, the judicial system, the rule of law, foreign lands, folks who come from these cultures, our relationship with foreign countries, and even the education system will be highlighted. A sense of seriousness and responsibility will likely take place in all these areas, as will our involvement and concern for them.
Fortunately, there’s also a very productive influence from rebellious, independent Uranus to the Moon/Saturn placement. The populace confronting the status quo, combining organization and structure with demonstrating for radical change with revolutionary zeal, will also be happening.
There’s also a very tense interaction between planetary heavyweights Jupiter, Uranus, Pluto, and other celestial bodies that will continue to dominate the cosmic landscape during springtime. Jupiter can be positive, hopeful, and expansive or prejudiced and narrow-minded. Uranus can represent rebellion and change, but also anarchy and unrest. Pluto stands for tearing down, rebuilding, and transforming, as well as the heavy hand of authoritarianism. No doubt a combination of all of the above will be part of how our society continues to evolve in the months ahead. It’s as if every area of life from government and big business to the judicial system, education, and more will be affected. Of course, the collective energies of various groups with common goals and ideals will also become more visible and empowered.
To be more specific regarding upcoming planetary happenings and terrestrial events, the month of April cannot be ignored. With both Venus and Saturn changing direction, while at the same time powerfully interacting with one another in a very stressful fashion, financial difficulties could occur, especially at mid-month. Also, the planet Uranus will be in a tense relationship with Mercury in the chart of the United States in the area of other people’s money and resources. This indicates that sudden and unexpected events could occur, and likely make circumstances even more unstable. The fact that Mercury will be turning retrograde in the money oriented sign of Taurus during this time could easily affect our thinking and the information we’re given. It’s quite possible financial uncertainties will be on our mind, as well as the topic of conversation.
The planet Venus – the Goddess of Love, Relationships, Harmony, and Beauty – is moving retrograde in the EC. Of course, a planet appearing to be moving backward is just an optical illusion, yet its meaning is very important. And Venus goes retrograde less often than any other planet, doing so this year from early March through mid-April. This six week period represents the opportunity to address all things Venusian in a more serious and reflective fashion. The quality of our partnerships and relationships, including our relationship with money and financial security, would seem to stand out. Yet equally important are not just our material values, but how we define and value ourselves and our sense of self-worth.
Initially, Venus is in the more enthusiastic, demonstrative, but sometimes self-centered sign Aries before moving back into the more romantic and idealistic sign Pisces in early April. It’s as if the energy of Venus will shift from vitality and passion (Aries), to depth of affection and compassion (Pisces). This could realign our priorities and values as to how we relate with and value others in our lives. How we express romance and affection, love and caring, sensitivity and intimacy, and moving from the personal to the universal could easily assume more meaning while Venus is Rx until April 15th and even after. As mentioned above, there’s a very uncomfortable interaction between Venus and Saturn around this time. From financial concerns to perhaps even some event that creates a collective sadness in the land, this could be a time for caring and compassion among all peoples.
Also happening in mid-April is the stationary and retrograde motion of Pluto. The Lord of the Underworld intensifies what it touches, uproots and brings what is hidden to the surface. Pluto represents the breaking down of things, transforming what isn’t working, and replacing it with something totally new. Plutonian change takes a long time. Perhaps a cycle such as this is about to be initiated. It should also be noted that Uranus in the sky above will powerfully affect Pluto in the chart of the United States in the area of money, finances, and material security from late spring until the end of 2017 and beyond. To put it mildly, this could be when the fecal matter hits the oscillating device, and circumstances become even more unpredictable and uncertain.
Mercury, as mentioned earlier, goes retrograde on April 9th in the money oriented sign Taurus. As this is tax time, be sure to double check every item on your various forms, especially as it would be easy to misplace figures and numbers. As builders and carpenters say, “measure twice, cut once”.
Thankfully, when Rx Mercury gets close to stopping, turns direct and begins moving forward in late April and early May, it will be making an energizing connection with electric Uranus. Quick thinking, flashes of insight, coming up with new and innovative ideas, stepping outside the box, and being more intellectually curious could become more apparent. Your day to day routine and ways of verbalizing your thoughts could be anything but ordinary. In addition, the influence of disciplined Saturn at this time will bring both structure and patience into the picture. This is a good time to confidently speak your truth or listen to and connect with others doing the same.
Finally, early June finds both Jupiter and Neptune – the traditional and modern ruling plants of the sign Pisces – changing direction in the sky above. Even as early as mid-May, we will experience a need and desire for harmony as well as a need to be more realistic. We will also reflect on our idealism and discover where we are being deceived. This will be especially true as both of these large bodies will be affecting the Sun and Saturn in the chart of the United States. Those in positions of responsibility and authority will be even more visible. In what fashion leadership expresses itself, and how we respond, remains to be seen. A sense of grandiosity could occur while the Emperor is revealed to have no clothes.
In conclusion, there will continue to be powerful and empowering times on the horizon. The breaking down and coming apart, the need for new ideas and a vision for a better world, the group as a source of power, both the individual and the collective standing up for and incorporating change, will all be part of our world. We all need to strive to do our best and be encouraging to one another. Above all, have faith, and be your own truth.
