In December I launched a Support Information Press 2015 campaign with the intent of raising enough funds to operate for an entire year. As I stated then, our funding has ended and ad sales are down. Because I knew it would be impossible to gather the funds we need in one month I set the goal for the printing cost only. We just made it. Together, current advertisers and 40 readers contributed $2500. We met the first hurdle thanks to some very generous donors. Thank you to all who answered the call.
To remain in service the campaign must continue and be prosperous. The future of Information Press is in the hands of the readers. To print the February issue we must raise $5,000. That is the minimum monthly cost for rent, printing and staff. It does not include a salary for me. Our next step is to become a nonprofit, however, like other valuable nonprofits we’ll rely on donations to continue. We will serve the community and be obliged to no one but our readers. See page two to donate or call the office. My door is open to those that would like to help in the office, as web admin, reporter/writer, and with fundraising.
Earth Day – On Sunday, April 19 from 10 am to 4 pm the 25th anniversary of Earth Day San Luis Obispo County will take place at El Chorro Regional Park. Earth Day SLO is a free event put on the Earth Day Alliance. It is not intended to be a fund raiser, it is about education and activation, a day to celebrate what the Earth provides and a time for people to share what they are doing for the planet. The Earth Day Alliance has been coordinating a county wide Earth Day since 2000, prior to that it was the Earth Day Coalition. We invite the public to get involved. January is the month for organizing. To learn more call (805) 544-8529, eamil: email@example.com or visit www.earthdayslo.org.
Shut down Diablo – The time to shut Diablo down is here. Concerned citizens from throughout the nation will be gathering to discuss possibilities at the end of the month. For those of us that live in San Luis Obispo and understand the risk it has been a long time coming. It has taken disasters and lies uncovered to finally get something going. I look forward to meeting up with some of you from the past.
Remember: The people united will never be defeated.
