While the month of September finds both the Sun and Jupiter focusing much of their energy on the discriminating, health oriented Earth sign Virgo, the more outgoing Fire and Air signs Leo and Libra that precede and follow Virgo will certainly impact our behavior and attitude during the month. The personal planets, Venus and Mars, move through generous, warm-hearted Leo for all or most of September. In fact, the Goddess of Beauty will appear stationary in the sky early in the month, further emphasizing the meaning and value of love and romance in our lives. Mars, also in Leo, further encourages the expression of affection and sexuality, as well as being a source of inspiration to others.
In addition Mercury, the planet that influences how the mind works and our communication skills, spends the entire month in the Air sign Libra, further emphasizing the importance of your interaction with others, the need for open and harmonious dialogue that allows for all voices to be heard, and all opinions to be expressed. In fact, the Mercurial nature of your life could be more serious than usual, as the intense energy of Pluto impacts Mercury most all of September, which could lead to more probing and introspective thought and speech, perhaps even forcing issues that have been repressed or ignored to the surface.
If that’s not enough, Mercury will once again turn retrograde on the 17th. While the 3 weeks following can be a time of being forgetful, having to retrace your steps, even things breaking down, it’s also an opportunity to rethink, reconsider, reorganize a project, or reflect on past decisions or experiences that may need a different perspective.
The middle of the month also features a very different energy dynamic, the interaction of expansive, optimistic Jupiter, and imaginative, impressionable Neptune, the traditional and modern rulers of the intuitive, deeply feeling Water sign Pisces. While this combination can encourage a more spiritual or idealistic outlook on life, it will be just as easy to be unrealistic, see the world through rose colored glasses, or even deceive yourself or be misled by others. Fortunately, with Saturn moving into Sagittarius during this time, having a more realistic appraisal or your philosophy of life and what is truth could help to keep your boundaries intact.
Needless to say, the most important celestial phenomena during September are the partial Eclipse of the Sun on the 12th, and the Total Eclipse of the Moon on the 27th. The Virgo Solar Eclipse highlights qualities of critical thinking and analysis. The sign of the Maiden holding chaffs of grain also represents the more feminine qualities that either gender can cultivate such as humility, feeling useful, and being of service to others. Virgo also encourages all forms of self improvement, diet and exercise, and an essentially practical and organized approach to life.
Two influences from other bodies in the solar system make this rather mild eclipse more meaningful. First, freedom oriented Uranus affects the Sun and Moon in such a fashion as to perhaps encourage an adjustment in your life regarding health needs and issues, or maybe taking a more independent approach to work and employment. In addition, the planetoid Chiron, known as the Wounded Healer, currently in the sensitive water sign Pisces, impacts the eclipse point as well. As a result, here you may find the need to bring hidden emotional wounds to the surface, or deal with those fears and insecurities that prevent a healthy expression of feelings or that inhibit the full expression of your creativity. Your psychological and emotional well being will benefit from any healing endeavors you choose to pursue.
The Total Eclipse of the Moon on the 27th is very powerful, especially as it occurs close to the Autumnal Equinox. And While the fullness of the Moon occurs in the masculine, independent Fire sign Aries, the essential focus of this eclipse is on relationships, as represented by the Sun’s placement in partnership oriented Libra. In addition, the asteroid Juno, named for the Roman Goddess of Marriage, is strongly connecting with the Sun. This further emphasizes the need for finding and achieving a balance of masculine and feminine energies within ourselves, in the relationships we value in our lives, and in ultimately creating harmony and peace on planet Earth.
Eclipses tend to bring added emphasis into your life regarding the particular area of your birth chart where the eclipse occurs. It’s as if a spotlight is illuminating the part of your life’s path that needs attention. A lunar eclipse, highlighting the feminine energy of the Moon, will tend to focus on what is more emotional and internal, and likely attract events into your life brought on by your thoughts and feelings.
This month of September highlights both how we are caring for ourselves, and how we are endeavoring to achieve balance and harmony in our relationships. Embrace the opportunities life brings to you.
