Half Moon Bay sits on the Pacific side of San Mateo County, separated from the Peninsula's main urban corridor by the Santa Cruz Mountains. Historic Main Street and the nearby state beaches anchor its coastal cityscape, while farms produce pumpkins and other crops on the surrounding Coastside. Highway 1 follows the shore and State Route 92 crosses inland. The harbor at Pillar Point and the Mavericks surf area lie nearby but outside the city's central downtown district.
